12 things you can do in the summer If You’re Single.

Singleness isn’t bound to seasons, but there are some seasons that just suit being single better than others. In the dead, dark days of winter, having another warm human body to put your body near is pleasant. But in the summertime — a time for actually going outside, a time for remembering what grass feels like, a time for socializing — being single is, TBH, incredibly fun. I’m not saying you should dump whoever you’re dating to experience being sans bae during the summer months, but I’m also not saying you shouldn’t do that either.

1. It’s so much easier to actually meet people in the summertime than it is in any other season.
The weather is top-notch, and that means all the parks and beaches and bars are teeming with people for you to flirt with whenever you want. People are out and about, and probably in a great mood, what with all that vitamin D they’re getting. Why tie yourself down when you could be making new friends to make out with?

2. Being single opens up the enticing and exciting opportunity to snag a vacation bae.
Honestly who doesn’t fantasize about a hot fling with someone you’ll only really be around for a week while you’re on vacation in whatever exotic location you’re in? Steamy summer flings are the subject of so many romance movies and novels for a reason.

3. You can pick up and go on mini vacations with friends without having to consult anyone about it first.
All those long weekends you get in the summer are perfect for last-minute trips out of town with friends. The only thing slowing you down? Having to check with your partner to make sure you two don’t already have plans that weekend, or that they’re cool with you blowing town for a few days. Not that you have to run all your decisions by whoever you’re dating, but you know, common courtesy. Being single saves you this annoying step.

4. You get to capitalize on the fact that everyone, yourself included, looks hot AF in the summertime.
You’re tan (but not too tan because sunscreen is important), you’re more active, and overall just look better and happier in the summer months. Also, people spend whole days at a time running around in swimsuits, which, let’s be honest, are just glorified undies. Thirst traps abound all summer long.

5. Summer is full of events and activities that are basically just giant singles mixers.
Free movie nights in the neighborhood? Music festivals? Farmers’ markets? Daytime dance parties? Those are all incredibly good places for meeting new people you might not normally meet, and other seasons don’t have nearly as many offerings as summer does.

6. Also, all those events and activities make great date opportunities for all the hotties you meet during the summertime.
Since you’ll be meeting people who are dying to date you from June to September, you’ll need a slew of innovative date spots. Luckily, summer P R O V I D E S.

7. Sleeping in a bed next to another hot body is the last thing you want when it’s 90 degrees outside.
This is just economics, really. Think about all the money you’ll save on air conditioning if you don’t have to accommodate for 98.6 degrees of human body heat trapped underneath the blankets with you.

8. You don’t want to waste your entire vacation Skypeing and texting whoever you’re dating.
Sure, it can be fun to have someone back home who’s deeply interested in all the cool vacation activities you’re doing, but all that time spent filling in bae on your fun times is just stealing time away from having more of those fun times. Shut off your phone and enjoy the precious few days you have to unplug and unwind.

9. It’s just more fun to use this time to goof off and hang out with friends.
The only thing better than spending summer nights smooching someone you like is spending summer nights laughing with people you actually love.

10. Summer is a great time to knock out all those projects you’ve been putting off.
The days are longer, which means you have more time to finally finish the sweater you started knitting three winters ago, or actually learn how to bake homemade pie crusts or whatever it is you’ve been wanting to do. Hang out alone and make crafts, it’s great! So much better than dealing with a stinky boy (men are so stinky in the summer).

11. You have time to actually read all your beach reads, instead of just buying them and stacking them up on your shelf.
There are so many good books out this summer (Shrill, The Girls…), how could you, in good conscience, not read them?

12. You have so many opportunities to go on solo adventures.
Whether it’s just a day where you go out into the world and leave your phone at home, or a quick, overnight trip to a nearby town you’ve always wanted to visit, doing things alone in the summer can be the absolute best thing. You have all fall and winter to cuddle and wear sweaters with some hottie. Soak up the very best season by making a summer bucket list and checking every single item off of it. Just so much easier to do when you don’t have a partner draining your time.
